The Shahada Exposes Islam’s Real Priority Muhammad Over God
Introduction:
The Hidden Heresy of Islam’s “Monotheism”
Islam is marketed as the final, purest monotheistic faith — a return to the uncompromising worship of a single deity, Allah. But right at the heart of this “pure monotheism” lies a creed that tells a very different story.
The Shahada (Islamic declaration of faith):
"La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur rasul Allah"
“There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
This two-part formula isn’t just a doctrinal statement — it’s a theological gate. And Muhammad is the one who controls it.
The Shahada does not merely affirm belief in God. It conditions salvation on allegiance to one man — not to truth, not to righteousness, not even to God’s essence, but to Muhammad’s identity and status.
This isn’t monotheism. This is a prophet-centric loyalty test disguised as faith in God.
1. The Two Clauses Are Not Equal — One Is Required to Validate the Other
Let’s break it down.
The Shahada is split into two clauses:
-
Clause A: There is no god but Allah.
-
Clause B: Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
Theologically, Clause A should be sufficient for monotheism. After all, it affirms the absolute unity and exclusivity of God. A Jewish rabbi, a Christian monotheist, or a Deist philosopher could affirm this first clause with sincerity and conviction.
But in Islam, Clause A is invalidated without Clause B.
You can believe in Allah — even pray, fast, and worship Him alone — but if you do not affirm Muhammad’s prophethood, you are destined for hell.
Qur’an 4:150-151
“Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers and seek to make a distinction between Allah and His messengers... they are truly disbelievers; and We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.”
So even if someone accepts God but doesn’t accept Muhammad, Islam declares them a disbeliever. In fact, many Islamic jurists go further: denying Muhammad is worse than denying God — because it implies rejecting God’s chosen means of communication.
That’s not monotheism. That’s personality gatekeeping.
2. The Shahada Doesn’t Just Affirm Muhammad — It Prioritizes Him
In Islam:
-
You cannot reach God except through Muhammad.
-
You cannot understand God’s will except through Muhammad.
-
You cannot be saved unless you accept Muhammad.
The practical result? Muhammad becomes more than a prophet — he becomes the necessary mediator of salvation.
“None of you will believe until I am dearer to him than his father, his children, and all mankind.” — Sahih Bukhari 15
“Whoever dies and has not affirmed ‘There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger’ will enter Hell.” — Numerous hadiths (e.g., Sahih Muslim 93)
Belief in Allah isn’t enough.
This is the opposite of true monotheism. The message is clear: God’s approval is not based on your recognition of Him — but on your recognition of Muhammad.
3. The Shahada Creates a New Condition for Divine Acceptance: Submission to Muhammad
In pre-Islamic Abrahamic thought, belief in and submission to God alone was the standard of righteousness. There was no prophet through whom all salvation had to be routed. Prophets were messengers — not mediators of damnation or salvation.
Islam breaks that tradition.
The Shahada makes belief in a human being’s status the central soteriological test. This is not about morality, justice, conscience, or divine relationship. It’s about declaring allegiance to one man’s title.
Let’s be blunt:
-
A person who lives a moral, charitable life, believes in God, but rejects Muhammad → eternal hellfire.
-
A person who affirms Muhammad, even if they commit crimes, beat their wife, or own slaves → still counted as a Muslim, possibly eligible for heaven after punishment.
Muhammad becomes the deciding factor — not God’s mercy, not virtue, not moral alignment with divine principles.
That is a prophet-first religion.
Not God-first.
4. The Shahada Has Legal, Political, and Social Implications — All Centered on Muhammad
The Shahada is the entry point into the Islamic ummah (community) — and by extension, the system of Islamic law. It’s not just a spiritual belief; it’s a legal oath of political-religious submission.
Once recited, you are bound to:
-
Obey Shariah, which is derived from Muhammad’s teachings
-
Follow the Sunnah, Muhammad’s personal example
-
Reject all other legal/moral systems that contradict him
-
Uphold blasphemy laws, especially those protecting Muhammad’s status
-
Accept the legitimacy of jihad to spread or defend Muhammad’s legacy
Thus, Muhammad becomes:
-
The source of law
-
The model of citizenship
-
The litmus test for loyalty
This is not a declaration of monotheism. This is an oath of allegiance to Muhammad as the commander of a theocratic state.
5. Islam Condemns All Other Monotheists — Because They Reject Muhammad
The Qur’an is explicit:
“Whoever denies Allah and His Messenger — then We have prepared for the disbelievers a blazing fire.” — Qur’an 48:13
Let’s break down the real-world implications:
-
Jews: Affirm God? Yes. Follow Muhammad? No → Condemned.
-
Christians: Affirm God? Yes. Follow Muhammad? No → Condemned.
-
Deists, Theists, Ethical Monotheists? Same result — eternal punishment.
Islam’s message: God doesn’t matter unless you affirm the Prophet.
This isn’t theology. This is cultic absolutism.
6. Muhammad Is the Bottleneck of Heaven
Let’s visualize Islam’s model of salvation:
God → Muhammad → Revelation, Law, Salvation
You do not approach Allah directly.
You cannot serve Allah independently.
You cannot be saved by belief in Allah alone.
Muhammad is the bottleneck. The checkpoint. The exclusive gatekeeper.
Remove him from the formula, and the entire religious system collapses into theological illegitimacy.
Which leads us to the uncomfortable truth:
Islam isn’t about God. It’s about controlling access to God — through one man.
Conclusion: The Shahada Reveals the True Object of Islamic Loyalty
Islam proclaims monotheism, but practices prophetolatry — the elevation of a man to the center of divine access. The Shahada makes this explicit: salvation is not in believing in God, but in accepting Muhammad’s role as non-negotiable.
This isn’t God-centered religion. This is Muhammad-centered control.
-
The Shahada doesn’t begin your relationship with God.
-
It begins your legal, moral, and spiritual submission to Muhammad.
This is why Islam is obsessed with defending the Prophet’s name, legacy, and honor — not out of pure reverence, but because without Muhammad, the entire religion crumbles.
He is not the signpost pointing to God.
He is the tollgate standing in front of Him.
