Muhammad in the Bible
A Belief Without Evidence
The belief that Muhammad is foretold in the Bible is a core theological claim within Islam, based purely on Quranic verses and reinterpretations of biblical passages. However, this claim is not supported by external historical or textual evidence—it exists only within Islamic theology as a matter of faith.
1️⃣ The Quran Claims Muhammad is Mentioned in the Bible – But Where?
Muslims base this idea on two Quranic verses:
📖 Surah 7:157 – "Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel..."
📖 Surah 61:6 – "Jesus said: ‘O Children of Israel, I am the messenger of Allah to you, confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.’"
🔴 Problems with This Claim:
- These verses claim Muhammad is in the Bible, but they don’t provide any specific references.
- No Jewish or Christian scripture contains anything resembling these descriptions.
- If Muhammad was clearly prophesied, why did Jews and Christians never recognize him?
📌 This is a classic case of circular reasoning: “Muhammad is in the Bible because the Quran says so.” That’s not evidence—it’s just a faith-based assumption.
2️⃣ The “Machmad” Argument – Song of Solomon 5:16
The Muslim claim:
- The Hebrew word "Machmad" (מחמד) appears in Song of Solomon 5:16, meaning "altogether lovely."
- Muslims argue that "Machmad" sounds like "Muhammad" (محمد), so it must be a hidden prophecy.
🔴 Problems with This Claim:
1️⃣ Machmad is a common Hebrew word meaning "desirable" or "precious"—it appears multiple times in the Old Testament (1 Kings 20:6, Isaiah 64:11, etc.), and it never refers to a person.
2️⃣ The verse is love poetry, not a prophecy about a future prophet.
3️⃣ If similar-sounding words equal prophecy, then any name that vaguely matches any word in another language could be a "prophecy."
📌 This is just wordplay, not evidence. It’s as ridiculous as saying "Comforter" sounds like "Confucius," so the Bible must be talking about Confucius! 😆
3️⃣ The Paraclete Argument – John 16:13
The Muslim claim:
- In John 16:13, Jesus speaks about the Paraclete (Greek: παράκλητος), whom Christians believe refers to the Holy Spirit.
- Muslims claim that this actually refers to Muhammad, saying the original word was Periklutos, meaning "praised one," which matches "Ahmad" (another name for Muhammad).
🔴 Problems with This Claim:
1️⃣ There is NO manuscript evidence of "Periklutos" ever being in the Greek Bible. This is a total fabrication.
2️⃣ The Paraclete is described as the Holy Spirit (John 14:26), NOT a human prophet.
3️⃣ Muhammad did not fulfill the role of the Paraclete, which included teaching about Jesus and dwelling in believers.
📌 This is just rewriting scripture to fit a narrative. There’s no actual evidence that this passage refers to Muhammad.
4️⃣ The “Prophet Like Moses” Argument – Deuteronomy 18:18
📖 Deuteronomy 18:18 – "I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brethren."
The Muslim claim:
- "Their brethren" refers to the Ishmaelites (Arabs), so Muhammad is the prophet like Moses.
🔴 Problems with This Claim:
1️⃣ "Brethren" in the Bible always refers to Israelites, NOT Arabs. The entire book of Deuteronomy is about Israel and its descendants.
2️⃣ The prophecy says the prophet will speak in God’s name and perform miracles like Moses.
- Muhammad never performed miracles according to the Quran.
- Jesus actually fits this prophecy better, since He was an Israelite and performed miracles like Moses.
3️⃣ The New Testament confirms that this prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus, not Muhammad (Acts 3:22-23).
📌 This is just another case of Muslims twisting a verse to fit their narrative.
5️⃣ The Logical Problem – If Muhammad Was Prophesied, Why Did Jews & Christians Reject Him?
If Muhammad was clearly mentioned in the Bible, then:
- Why do Jewish and Christian scholars—who have studied the Bible for 2,000+ years—never recognize him?
- Why did the Jews of Medina reject him, even after examining his claims?
- Why is there no historical record of any Jews or Christians seeing Muhammad as a fulfillment of prophecy?
📌 Because he was never there to begin with. Muslims are trying to force a connection that simply doesn’t exist.
6️⃣ Sectarian Disagreements – Even Muslims Can’t Agree on This
| Sect | View on Muhammad in the Bible | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Sunni Islam | Believes the Bible was altered but still contains hints of Muhammad. | Uses the "Machmad" and "Paraclete" arguments. |
| Shia Islam | Some extend prophecy to include Imam Ali as Muhammad’s successor. | They reinterpret Old Testament verses about leadership. |
| Ahmadiyya Islam | Believe later biblical references also predict their leader, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. | Extend the logic beyond Muhammad. |
| Quranist Islam | Some reject the claim entirely. | Argue that the Quran alone proves Muhammad’s prophethood. |
📌 If this prophecy was so clear, why can’t Muslims even agree on what it means?
Final Verdict – Another Baseless Claim
✅ Islamic Theology? Yes, the Quran claims Muhammad is in the Bible.
❌ Historical Evidence? No. No Jewish or Christian records mention Muhammad as a fulfillment of prophecy.
❌ Textual Evidence? No. The biblical verses used are misinterpretations or fabrications.
❌ Logical Evidence? No. If Muhammad was foretold, Jews and Christians wouldn’t have rejected him.
📌 The reality? This is just another Islamic myth based on cherry-picking verses and twisting meanings to fit a pre-decided conclusion. There is ZERO external evidence that Muhammad was ever prophesied in the Bible. 😆
